Our Staff

 


The CAC staff is comprised of a full-time director, administrative assistant, victim’s advocate, and an outpatient therapist. In addition to our full-time staff, a contract Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse provide on-site forensic medical exams.

Karen is a Licensed Psychological Associate, earning a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian State University in 1993. She has 15 years experience working in mental health centers across North Carolina providing therapeutic services to children, adolescents and adults. Throughout her career, she has worked with sexual abuse issues and has experience working with victims, families and perpetrators. This experience allows a unique perspective and understanding of sexual abuse dynamics. Karen joined the CAC in September 2008, providing on-site treatment services to victims and their families. She is trained in evidenced-based clinical practices and is committed to assisting children and families through the healing process.

Elizabeth graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She joined the staff of the CAC in December of 2006. Elizabeth brings to the CAC a background in research and administrative skills, as they apply to working in a human services setting.

Kim holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Healthcare Management. She has three years of experience in the healthcare business field, and additional experience with a 9 month internship. Taking an  interest in the clinical field, she received a degree in Practical Nursing. The nursing field enabled her to gain five years of experience with at-risk patients through bedside nursing.  Working with the Children’s Advocacy Center has given her the opportunity to combine the knowledge of healthcare business and bedside nursing, in order to provide the best possible care for the children that are seen here.

Beth has been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1989. For the first several years, she worked as a family nurse practitioner in family practice settings in Kentucky and western North Carolina. In 1992, she started working in a pediatric office and later that same year, began her training in the area of child maltreatment evaluations. Within a few years, Ms. Osbahr started working in Asheville at a regional child maltreatment center that saw children from 23 western counties. She continued working there until 2005, when her family moved to Hickory. While working in Asheville, Ms. Osbahr earned her national certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. After taking a brief period of time off, Ms. Osbahr returned to work in the same area of pediatrics, having by this time, acquired significant knowledge and experience working with abused and neglected children. In addition to working directly with children, Ms. Osbahr has presented on various aspects of child maltreatment to local and state organizations. She also has testified on a number of occasions in different jurisdictions in regards to specific children.

Adrienne holds a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from Appalachian State University.  She has six years of experience working with Children’s Advocacy Centers.  Adrienne has served as the Victims Advocate and Multidisciplinary Team facilitator since September 2007.

Deborah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and a Master’s Degree in Social Work and in Religion. She has 10 years experience working with non-profit agencies, 6 years experience in fundraising, 3 years experience in grant writing, and over 15 years experience in program development. She has served as the CAC Director since November 2004. Deborah has experience working with incest survivors, victims of domestic violence, homeless families with children, and child victims of sexual abuse.
